It can be difficult for company leaders who see environmental sustainability more as a homework assignment without bringing fact-based and data-driven insights into the conversation. The leader’s view can be how can one company make an impact? Risk, operations, and compliance leaders need to tell stories about today vs. tomorrow on addressing climate change.

Last week the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a report highlighting:
➡️Harmful carbon emissions from 2010-2019 have never been higher
➡️Increasing emissions from urban areas
➡️The world is at the 2-minute warning to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees

The IPCC noted on their website “Providing the scientific proof to back up that damning assessment, the IPCC report – written by hundreds of leading scientists and agreed by 195 countries – noted that greenhouse gas emissions generated by human activity, have increased since 2010 “across all major sectors globally”.”

Leaders can start based on policy and strategy in the scientific research from organizations like the IPCC, The partnership needs to include the vendor ecosystem, employees, customers, the Board, and the surrounding community.

The key here it is not too late to have a new direction in climate change.  From the IPPC website,“…, IPCC Working Group III Co-Chair, Priyadarshi Shukla, insisted that “the right policies, infrastructure and technology…to enable changes to our lifestyles and behavior, can result in a 40 to 70 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. “The evidence also shows that these lifestyle changes can improve our health and wellbeing.”

Let’s get risk assessment and mitigation going to address carbon emissions for addressing climate change.
